Allyson E. Berry, a Leesburg City Commissioner, proudly represents the district where she is a third-generation native. Born to the late L.J. Berry and Agnes S. Berry, her roots run deep within the community she serves.
Allyson earned her MBA and built a successful career in accounting with several companies, including MetLife, ADP, and CNN.
She returned home in 2020 to care for her mother. While serving as Controller at Lifestream Behavioral Center, she decided to take her commitment to service to another level and invest her talents back into Leesburg, the city that helped shape her. Allyson made history in November 2022 as the first African American woman elected to the Leesburg City Commission, representing District 1.
This year, Allyson made history again by being selected as the first female African American Mayor in the hisory of the City of Leesburg.
As Mayor and City Commissioner, Allyson believes leadership begins with listening. She is committed to being accessible to residents, bringing people together, and making thoughtful decisions that address today’s needs while preparing Leesburg for the future.
Her commitment to service extends throughout the community. Allyson serves on the boards of the Leesburg Center for the Arts, Lake Community Action Agency, and The Salvation Army. She is President-Elect of the Leesburg Rotary Club for 2027. A graduate of Leadership Lake County, Class of 2024, Allyson also serves on its Board of Regents.
Allyson is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; the Bennett College National Alumnae Association; P.E.O.; the NAACP; the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW); the Florida League of Cities; the Florida League of Mayors; and St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
Allyson is seeking re-election as Leesburg City Commissioner for District 1, Seat 1. She brings professional experience, firsthand knowledge of city government, and a proven commitment to serving Leesburg residents. There is more work to do, and Allyson remains committed to listening to residents, strengthening neighborhoods, managing growth responsibly, and working with others to move Leesburg forward.
